Motif focused on a certain light

To Maria Lavonen drawing is the fundamental method in all her art.

At present she is very keen on studying, how the light focuses on different motifs. How the colour, the direction and the strength of light determine the look of the motif. - How the motif looks and how it really is, are two different things. Her aim is to capture on the canvas or paper, the image of how the motif looks like at a certain moment, on a certain light.

Maria Lavonen´s works are usually large. Her main subject is a human being - a human being focused on a bright light (and shadow), naked, even vulnerable, sometimes brave and self conscious, sometimes withdrawn into oneself.

Maria Lavonen was born in Mänttä. She lives and works in Germany. She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Finland e.g. in Aine, Oulu and Kemi Art Museums, in Germany and the USA.
