In the Presence of Absence
The Contemplation of Impermanence is not simply morbid fascination; it is the only certainty. The deeper we look into this reality, the louder the words of the Buddha resonate in the silence.
Many do not realise that
We here must die.
For those who realise this
Quarrels end.
All else is Illusion. The very breath we breathe is merely on loan to us. Every interaction and experience encountered is a shard of mirror to the true self. Our own personal pain and suffering is the medicine of the Universe, a tonic which makes us whole, and restores our Oneness with all Beings.
And all that is left to be done is the search for a sympathetic current which will sweep us into the vastness of the ocean, to find our stone where we can stand assured aloneness and gaze at the wonder of it all.
PRESS RELEASE:
My work results from the constant conversation between my conscious and unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is where Spirit lives and so all creativity resides there. My job as an artist is to take it from there and give it substance, a kind of informal logic. I am a painter, poet and sculptor and at any one time , not necessarily in that order. This exhibition, In the Presence of Absence is the result of recent dialogues with myself about the impermanence of all things. There are 14 paintings, all, oil in canvas or canvas board and 5 sculpture pieces some of which are found objects and some constructions. There is no room on any of my work, for the extra mark of a signature, hence they are all signed and dated on the back or in out of the way places.
