N + 1 SCENES
I deal with structures in my works. These structures are about human made constructions and man´s will to understand the working mechanisms in nature. Nature has the will to spread and conquer, and greedy mankind, being a part of nature, behaves similarly, filling world with its constructions and technologies. At the same time mankind is destroying nature.
I use photos and computer graphics as materials for my pictures. I combine intuitively images and digital technology. When I have addressed nature by painting with my computer, the main subjects are mystery and phenomena that are evident in nature; those that we have tried to understand and explore, yet facing more and more new questions. Science has, in this sense, a fractal nature.
Chaos game
I combine fractal renderings to my works. Fractal renderings are images created not by light or hand, but by computer technology and mathematical functions creating a ”chaos game”. When we are looking at fractals, we are looking at portraits of chaos. In my works fractals also symbolize continuity, recurrance and compexity.
Preparing one picture typically takes several months, a period, when I examine how different technical solutions effect the final visual output of a work. I have a certain theme on my mind, but I let the composition be formed intuitively. The work is finished when it is printed and lit from above and underneath. The details come visible as planned when the size is large enough, which means a notably bigger size then resolution on/in a computer screen.
