COLOUR IS THE SUBSTANCE ITSELF
When I start to work on a painting, I must be aware of two things; there must be an idea from which to start with and some idea to reach for. In between takes place the actual painting, which does not necessarily follow any plan and sometimes wants to take its own paths. That is why, this time, there is no common theme in my exhibition.
Nature is often the starting point in my works, but I feel no need to follow it. The important issue is the substance, and before all, the colour, which itself can be the substance of a painting.
Colour selection must be based on something with a link to my inner understanding, because senses do not reach up to reality.
My goal is that colour in my paintings would be more than just the object of light.
