UNEXPECTED

To my experience many things, which have changed me and my life, have happened unexpected, unanticipated.

Often the very art work, which bears time, is born unexpected, unanticipated. It is born secretly, in the middle of a process, by its own laws. One works consciously, but the result is beyond commands. Nothing is born by force, or by trying to achieve some aim with too much drive. One must be alert, flexible, patient. The only thing is to do is to work, regardless of the circumstances, if it is possible.

In 2008 I had a retrospective exhibition at the Joensuu Art Museum. One room was full of my new works, and they were the starting points for me to continue. I stumbled, I was deep down in the mud. Now I am here, and from here I go on.

As an artist to me the true meaning of life and aging, is some kind of a journey to get free, to widen the inner awareness, to silence, to greater understanding and to diminish to be all wrapped up in myself….
